I am delighted to see this site in use again. Thank you Rod! I took a look at Capt. Dan's site and am impressed. He has done an awesome job. |

We Bought Marc's book and used it extensively while out at Catalina .I have been planning a trip to Santa Barbara Island for a long time and anymore information about the island including anchoring would be appriciated. Capt Dan from Sailing Channel Islands has very extensive information about all the channel Island on his web site. https://sailchannelislands.com/santa-barbara/ |

It's already in the works, nearing completion: Cruising Catalina and Santa Barbara Island. Have you seen my guidebook "Anchoring at Catalina"? This IS the local cruiser's guide. More at this link: www.AnchoringAtCatalina.com |

Santa Barbara is such a seldom visited island. I think you would have to title it cruising Santa Barabra Island and then do a chapter on anchoring. It really is the next step for most sailors. Of course no one has written a locals crusing guide for the So Cal Sailor, viewing home waters in a new way. |

This is probably just recounting a story that appears elsewhere, but I asked Mark Howe how to not be bothered by other boats in the anchorage and he told me to anchor "where nobody else wants to go." This accounts for my now-favorite anchoring scheme:getting in close. |

This is a bit that popped up after Marc released his much esteemed "Anchoring at Catalina." I tried to think of an equivalent challenge which would pale in comparison to Marc's accomplishment, as my experience pales to Marc's. Why not Anchoring at Santa Barbara? One anchorage. several options. Not beyond our collective ability to write. Second, this could record valuable data about another commonly used anchorage. Useful. Third, it's a tribute to Marc. I have been to some of those Cat anchorages over the years. A few nights are burned into my memory. How Marc's book would have helped me. So this is a way we can compliment Marc's work by continuing it.. |
