This is a modification of the plan: I am planning on 5 boats/skippers: 32 ft Ericson - Blue Dolphin - Toni Rawlins skipper 32 ft Catalina - Escape - Mark Howe skipper 38[?] ft Pearson - Pilgrimage - David Sheriff skipper 28 ft Ericson - Half Moon - Jon Coltrane skipper 28 ft Islander - LaMouette - Charles Kepford skipper We have 27 enrolled in the class; that means average 5 or 6 per boat plus skipper. The 28ft. boats will have the 4+ and the bigger boats the 6+. More on that tonite. | ||

Dates for the precruise meetings: June 25 [Friday] Informational meeting @1900 [not required] Jul 30 & Aug 6 [Friday] Class meetings @1900 Dates for the cruise: Aug 12-15 departing Thurs night about 2100. The informational meeting Jun 25 is optional for answering questions and getting everybody onto this info board. It will not be a long meeting; maybe an hour or so depending on questions and discussions. The class meetings in July/August are required. We will be organizing crews and food, and lecturing on the basic information you need for participating in the class. Information presented during lectures will be on the examination at the end of the cruise. If it is necessary for you to miss either of these classes you must have made arrangements for another member of the class to act as your proxy for duties and information. The cruise will begin with loading of the boats at about 1800 Thurs. night. Departure will be about 2100. I am planning on 4 boats/skippers: 32 ft Ericson - Blue Dolphin 32 ft Catalina - Escape 38[?] ft Pearson - Pilgrimage 28 ft Ericson or Islander - Half Moon or LaMouette Itinerary: Friday Arrive Santa Barbara Is. about 0900 [about 12 hr cruise, mostly motorsailing unless we get wind]. After napping, we sail around the island, stopping to snorkel and explore Elephant Seal Cove and observe marine life along the way. There may be room for some kayaks on board if desired. Another option is hiking around the island and visiting the small National Park museum. Saturday Next morning we will depart for Catalina Island, under sail most of the way. Lots of opportunities for observing dolphins and sealions and other marine life along the way. We will probably spend the night at or near Doctors Cove, near Emerald Cove, as in past years. Or maybe we'll find a new spot, like last year. Sunday Depart for Dana Point, arriving about 1700 but maybe later depending on wind and how much fun we're having. Bring your cell phone if you will need to let somebody know. Takes about an hour to unload and clean the boat. The exam will be given on the cruise home. A few may choose to take it in the classroom after we get back; some get seasick reading and writing on a boat. :-) | ||

ORIENTATION MEETING FRIDAY IS SOCIAL This meeting will be to answer questions, meet fellow crew mates, and get anybody onto this website that hasn't figured it out yet. Boat crews and organization [Before the subject comes up - heh, heh]: I will put out a questionaire regarding your boating and other experience which will give you the opportunity to express your wishes regarding what boat and who you would like to go with as crew. Generally, I will try to accommodate your preferences, however I like to try to have on MY boat those who have limited or no experience. We presently have 23 enrolled. Some have gone before, some have been in our sailing classes, and some names are brand new to me. We will all find out about each other from the questionaire. See you Friday. |
