That's a great recap Cheree! Thanks! I mentioned during out meeting that I have a ton of CD's. I also have a lot of those in MP3 format already. I just updated my music collection online (http://www.ledwith.org/music). If you see anything there that you'd like me to bring, please let me know. Hello Pilgrimage Crew, Thanks to everyone for making it to Friday's class. As far as organizing our cruise, I think we covered all the bases. In this post, I will try to re-cap everything we planned. Night Crossing Watch - Thursday and Friday: 2100 - 2300 Karla and Kathy 2300 - 0100 Tony and Don 0100 - 0300 Larry and Stephen 0300 - 0500 David and Cheree 0500 - 0700 Karla and Kathy 0700 - 0900 Tony and Don 0900 - 1100 Larry and Stephen 1100 - 1300 David and Cheree ETA 1130 - Santa Barbara Island Let me know if we need to make any changes to this schedule. This watch schedule will rotate throughout the trip. Meal Preparations: ***** Please eat a full, healthy dinner before coming to the docks at 6pm. There's alot of work to do from 6-9pm, and your next meal isn't until 8am Saturday morning. Otherwise, we will have snacks out during the night. ***** Important Notes: I tried to arrange a schedule that would keep our novice sailors out of the galley while underway. I have also kept in mind that breakfast is a relatively quick/easy meal compared to lunch and dinner. Let me know if this works for you. Friday Breakfast (underway) - Larry and Stephen (cold breakfast, around 0830, before your watch) Friday Lunch (at anchor) - Kathy and Cheree Friday Dinner (at anchor) - Tony and Karla Saturday Breakfast (at anchor) - Kathy and Don Saturday Lunch (underway) - Tony and Karla Saturday Dinner (at anchor) - Cheree and Stephen Sunday Breakfast (at anchor) - Kathy and Don Sunday Lunch (underway) - Cheree and Larry List of supplies being brought by David: pots, pans, cooking supplies, utensils, alcohol for stove, fuel, water supply, flopper stopper, marine toilet paper, radios, binoculars, GPS's, charts, logsheets, inverter to charge cell phones, dighny and motor, sails, electric generator, tools, etc. (David - do you have a pot with a lid on it, for cooking rice?) List of supplies being brought by Larry: coffee, ice, thermas, spare bottled water, radios, GPS, charts, scuba tanks/gear List of supplies being brought by Tony and Karla: groceries, navigation tools, knot tying book (Karla, do you have dish-towels on your list? I think David said Pilgrimage needs some.) List of supplies being brought by Cheree: mayo, mustard, aluminum foil, hand soap for galley and head, sponges, dinner for 1 night, navigation tools, cleaning supplies, general medicines, etc. List of supplies being brought by Stephen: trash bags, ziplocks List of Things to Do Before our Departure: (Note: If it's not listed here, David or Larry are taking care of it.) 1800 (6pm) Stow personal gear/Choose a bunk - Note #1 - to New Sailors: There are carts at the docks that you can use to get your gear from your car to the boat. Look for them. This makes life alot easier, trust me. You may have to wait for one to become available, since all your other classmates will be loading their gear too. Get to the boat early to take advantage of this resource. David will be on the boat all day - you can go as early as you like. I plan to be there around 5pm. Note #2 - Be sure to get a parking pass from me or Mark Howe to put on the dashboard of your car, so you don't get towed/ticketed. Note #3 - As you know, only sleeping bags on your berth. All other gear should be stored in cabinets/closet spaces, look around for these hiding places, there are lots of them. Ask David or Larry for assistance. 1830 (6:30pm) Stow food supplies - we all need to pitch in and help Karla and Tony get the groceries onboard. Look for a cart! Once supplies are onboard, since the galley is so small, I'd like to leave Karla and Tony in charge of stowing the food in the galley. Karla and Tony - please check with David first for helpful instructions on loading Pilgrimage's refrigerator. Larry is bringing the ice, please coordinate. What food goes on bottom/top, is ice on bottom/top/both etc.. With years of experience, I am sure David and Larry have very helpful tricks we can learn. (Karla, please keep the designated snacks for the night crossing on-hand. Can you be sure to pull these out after we leave the harbor? Thanks) 1900 (7:00pm) Precruise Checklist Topside -While Karla and Tony are stowing food down below, I'd like to have Kathy, Don, and Stephen on deck going through the Checklist with me. 1930 (7:30pm) Precruise Checklist Down Below - After all groceries are stored away, we can join Karla and Tony down below to finish the Checklist. 2000 (8:00pm) Instructions from the Captain - David will give instructions on the following systems: 1) Head operation (please read page 18 in the class syllabus for Marine Head review) 2) Galley operation (stove/oven/water filter/frig/location of kitchen supplies) (please read page 18 in the class syllabus for Alcohol Stove review) 3) Rules for night crossing/Standing Orders (please read "On Board Procedures" page of Syllabus Hand-Out) 4) Sails/Rigging 5) Brief Overview for Dropping Anchor with Windless 2030 (8:30pm) Instructions for Casting off - All Hands on Deck David, let's talk so I can coordinate the crew, as you see fit. Note #1: All crew members will be on watch until we leave the harbor entrance. Standby for more instructions..... List of Activities for the Trip: 1) 1st Priority - Sailing - if there is no wind, other activities will include: 2) Diving/Snorkeling/Swimming 3) Basic Coastal Navigation 4) Tying Popular Sailing Knots (Tony) 5) Finding Constellations (Cheree) (good prep for Celestial Navigation) DON'T FORGET: Please start taking Bonine 24 hours before you step foot on the boat, if you are inclined to sea-sickness!!! Don't forget to bring at least 1 flashlight, 1 water bottle with your name labeled on it, sleeping bag, bathing suit, sunscreen, chapstick, earplugs, medicines, white long-sleeve cotton shirt, hat, camera, class Syllabus, notebook, etc. Don't forget to bring some cash to reimburse Tony and Karla for buying our groceries - thank you Tony and Karla !!! Please make arrangements to be at the boat for 6pm on Thursday. If you are going to be later than 7pm, please call David on his cell phone at 714-396-7857.
