I don't remember exactly which error gives that response, but I've seen it. When I figured out the formatting it went away, I think.
Watch your formatting VERY carefully. If it is correct, you will get the upload dialogue when you post your message asking for the name and location of the file. Otherwise you will get a placeholder, like you are getting.
If you do not log in, the upload limits are pretty small.
Even if you do log in, try uploading one at a time and see if that works.
The upload limit for members is 250 kb (per upload), for the public (nonregestered) its 100k. You can do multiple uploads in successive messages.
