Hi Sailors, Follow the link below to read the write up of the 2006 MST 289 class in the San Clemente Journal, by Bill Thomas. Bill is a Professor in the English dept. at Saddlebakc, a contributing editor to the Journal, and was on my boat for the summer trip. Check out the caption on the first page picture, as I dangle what looked at the time to be a seaweed and barnacle encrusted dead rat (it wasn't) over Evelyn for a closer look.

Congratulations on your policy on the use of jacklines and harnesses. I'd like to see "auto inflatable PFD" at least as helpful optional equipment on the gear list. Even better, if you are supplying harnesses and jacklines, you should supply inflatable PFDs too. Its going to be the standard of practice some day. |

Hi Boat Captains, Please come and see me, or send someone to come and see me before departure at B dock on the inland side to collect the following: 1. Folder with Sailing Lab Plan, log sheets, vessel checklists, and Final Exam 2. Harnesses - I have three per boat for you to use. Reminder: at night or when reefed the on-watch need to wear these, and anyone leaving the cockpit must clip in. 3. Jacklines - every boat needs these rigged before departure, and I have them for you. Some of you have these already. 4. Handheld VHF radios. I have three to distribute if you need one. 5. Lengths of line for knot tying practice, and exam. I have 4 or 5 lengths for each boat, and if you do not have spare line you should take these to make teaching and exams easier. 6. Inflatable. I have one to hand out. Larry and Mike on Pligrimage and Manana have their own with outboards, and that leaves one more between Fugga Oui and Half Moon. Marc |

Here's a link to video of the MST 289 cruise compiled from previous cruises. This will give you a good idea of what participation in the cruise is like. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5590336617822409599 If the link does not automatically take you to the Google Video page, copy the link and paste it into your browser. Somebody asked me about summer classes on one of these message boards. There has been so much traffic that I can't find it. [Another good reason for not clogging the board with junk] Summer Classes: MST 289 goes to the Channel Islands of Santa Barbara and Catalina and will be led by Marc. The cruise is 3-6 Aug. with Friday precruise meetings 21 & 28 July 7-10pm in TAS 225. Information meeting 7 July. Ticket#17245 You can check out previous year's classes here to see what happens on the trip. MST 212 is the Saturday dinghy class at the Youth Docks taught by John Keith. The schedule shows two 8 hr. field trips TBA. Dates: 6/24 - 8/12 Ticket#:15660 Contact John [ jkeith@saddleback.edu ] |
