This was taken by Kathleen during a sail drill. Unfortunately the most spectacular view was before we got organized with the camera.
I show this as taken 20Jan10; unfortunately no other meta-data found yet. |

The photo is awesome and has now become the backdrop on my computer screen. Two things keep bothering me though, and make me wonder about digital finesse that might have been used to create the image: 1. Why are the waters surrounding this monster so calm? 2. Why in the heck is the freighter going there? Mark, do you know the source of the photo? I'm thinking of the recent space shuttle photo hoax. Marc |

Here is a link to some pictures taken by NOAA Hurricane Hunters capturing the eyewall of hurricane Katrina, while it still was a category five: http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2005/s2496.htm |

Thanks Paul; Yes; they look a little too perfect. Hollywood technology probably. Similar photos came out after Ivan. We had one with a freighter heading out across calm seas lookng like it was going into the dangerous quadrant. Beautiful pics tho. |

These were sent to me as "Katrina Photo's", but I have my doubts. A few of these look like Kansas! Very cool nonetheless. Could these all be from the same storm?

Mark, Is this an indication of a pineapple express forming? With the low off Southern Californian would the system over Hawaii blow in to our region? I don't see the swirling in this picture John. Did you? Our present low WILL move east; just taking a long time. Its the highs that block the motion of the lows. mh

The following link offers great descriptions and photos of clouds and how they relate to forecasting weather. http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/guides/mtr/cld/cldtyp/home.rxml |
