I think when I tried to open the files originally, I either opened with or browsed to Map Source and each time it tried to get me to install it [again].
I believe what finally worked was first opening a Map Source map and then going to "file" on the [upper left] toolbar and opening from there. I'm pretty sure that's what worked.
Once I had done that I was able to save copies as .GPX files which I think go easily into easyGPS maps. I use expertGPS so I'm not sure about that; anybody using easyGPS? In any event I was able to put the waypoints on an aerial photo of the campus which was very helpful.
When I downloaded the waypoints to my 76Cx the beer mugs and pizzas came out fine but the acorns and wine glasses did not. No problem; I changed them.

Again, when i try and open beer.gdb i get an unreadable file. So without the wpts i cannot put them into MapSource. I'm sure it is just my ignorance. Hopefully I will understand what I am doing wrong in class tonight.

Yes, way too hard. You don't even need to make them a route. If you do, consider the instructions on which waypoint to start with.

It is sufficient to just get the waypoints into Garmin MapSource and download them to your GPS. We will have computers available at class if you lack cables. If you open a waypoint in the GPS you get heading and distance info from your current location.

Note that the number of the stick you are to retrieve and the number of the photo showing it's exact location once the GPS gets you to the area are included in the description field.

The class waypoints should sort out on your GPS either by the icon or by the waypoint number (they all begin with M).

Follow the link in my earlier post to get a clean download with the file extension correct. link to earlier post

The page this takes you to is my way of bypassing Discus to provide clean downloads. Right click on the file name and then "save link as" to your computer.

I think you're making this too hard. The files David created are Garmin Mapquest files that contain several waypoints. You open them in MapQuest and use the waypooints to create a route, and then download the waypoints and route to your GPS using MapQuest. You then follow the route using the GPS...

So far I have been unable to make a spreadsheet out of the food and drinks files. I am used to having the xy data together with other data on a spreadsheet. I will see if easy/ expert gps can access it.
Expert GPS was unable to recognise it.
Is it possible that a simple tab delim or comma delim file could be accessed by anybody? No matter what system or language they speak?

Otherwise, what would I do with MapQuest?

Yes, once you rename the file, MapSource recognizes it and can open the file. BTW I have a typo in my previous message. The extension should be "gdb" NOT "gbd".

Thanks, Ted.

The board wants to open the attachment rather than download it. If you download it, it makes it an "unk" file. Can I assume it all works once you rename things?

Most of what you don't test does not work the way you think it will. . . .

I believe you will find everything intact here:
all the stuff to download

Greetings folks, it looks like the web site doesn't preserve the file name extensions on the Mapsource routes that David created. If you just download the file the extenstion will be .unk (unknown), and Mapsource will not be able to understand its a MapSource file.

To get around this, when saving the MapSource file (*.gbd), change the extension to .gbd when saving it, and then you can open it from within MapSource to create the route and download it to your GPS.
