On Friday 10/17 08 Disney is releasing a sailing documentary movie called "Morning Light". Roy Disney a Transpac race veteran documents the selection and training of a crew of young adults to race in the 2007 Transpac race from Los Angeles to Hawaii. This is a documentary about sailing goals and teamwork although real it is not a "reality show".

I saw an early showing at the San Diego film festival with my daughter, very inspiring.

As a sailor you will project yourself in the movie, safety, preparation, race tactics, skills, making choices and managing the results.
I am very impressed by this team, and their trainers.

If you love sailing you will not be disappointed.

Morning Light Opens This Weekend

Years in the making, the 90-minute documentary, Morning Light by Roy and Leslie DeMeuse Disney will be coming to a small theater (hopefully) near you.

Disney known in the boating world for decades of entering the Newport-to-Ensenada race and breaking records during the Transpac started his career in the family biz in the film editing department. It was then Disney, nephew of Walt Disney, would listen to stories from a co-worker who would tell tall tales of the rough seas during the famed Transpac race.

The Disney's picked 11 untried sailors with an average age of under 20 from a big pool to sail the boat, a high-performance 52-foot sloop in the Transpac. The film follows the story of how the youngsters were selected to be part of the team in last year's TransPac from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Disney solved the problem of how to get good mid-ocean sailing footage by having the late Steve Fossett's maxi cat PlayStation/Cheyenne, set up as a motor vessel, track Morning Light all the way to the Islands. Morning Light will be released in 55 theaters starting October 17. Check it out! And tell your friends, sailors and non-sailors alike. Their wonderful website offers all the background info, photos, video and more.
