Syllabus Updates
At the last class, we decided as a group to meet for lectures at 1800 from here on out.
There is a Sailing Lab this Friday November 12, 1200 - 1600. Pack a lunch, and meet down at the boats.
The next Sailing Lab will be Saturday, December 4, 1200 - 1600. Pack a lunch, and meet down at the boats. |

Mark,
I can do the 4th over the 5th. I can't do Thursday evenings as I have Nav Class. I can do all the Fridays. I do not know if I have Nav on the 14th. I will have to check. The Lab will be during light hours no? If so I can do it.
As far as the time for class, early is nice as we are done earlier.. but I can do it either way.... |

FUTURE CLASS PLAN:
We will need to decide how to operate the rest of the class. Since we will be doing labs on weekend days, there will only be the two hour lectures on Fri. evenings. Should this be 1730-1930? or 1800-2000? or 1930-2130 as presently?
Marc will do the lab on Vets Day so I will need to figure out another day to do my lab. I am available either day weekend of Dec. 4/5 and maybe Sat. the 11th.
The lecture on spinnaker and racing will be switched with electronics/radio.

Next class meeting on Nov. 5: No sailing Lab. Lecture and midterm only.
Class will begin at 5:30 with review for the midterm. Next is the midterm, and after that, a Channel Islands Trip video. |

In response to discussion regarding date of final exam, it is the 19th December as shown on the schedule. This is the official date on the school calendar. |

Opps...I got a little too excited there! Thanks for pointing out that minor detail! I'd be happy to take a group out early this Friday. Can anybody get away at 1500? We could plan to meet up with the rest of the class at the green bouy around 1800. I can do this on Dec.3rd and 10th as well. Who wants to sail at 1500 tomorrow?? Is this okay...Marc and Mark? |

At the last class we spoke of sailing on Vets day holiday Nov 12, from about noon on. My thinking; after daylight savings goes off next week there won't be any light, even for setting up the boats to depart, so we should pick a makeup day and do the rest of the labs all at once. Nobody present had any problems with that afternoon, but this could be flexible so we pick up latecomers at a later time if conflicts develop.
If you have other thoughts, let us know.
I am in Eureka; will be driving down tonight but not arriving back til tomorrow afternoon. |

Thanks April;
We will be needing more experienced sailors to skipper boats during labs, so be sure to let Marc or me know if you are SCST certified or wish to be, and can help skipper. This is also great training and experience for those planning to take the MST215 Command and Organization class in Spring. |

We just returned Sunday evening from a 4 day cruise to Catalina so unless someone has been messing with the boats, they SHOULD be very nice and clean! My daughters and I took Blue Dolphin and she purred both ways...we actually mostly sailed back and then went under sail for 4 more hours because there was WIND! She was VERY clean when we left her! (SCST) Who eats pistachios? I found a ton of them under the cushions. |

Haven't seen the syllabus yet, but the plan is for sailing 1730-1930 and lecture from 1930-2130. After daylight savings ends it will be better to start earlier so some boats may be able to start at 1700 or earlier.
This Friday we will check out the boats at the youth docks after meeting at Aventura at 1730. Don't worry about getting lost; we'll have guides at both locations. Aventura is on the Saddleback map and the youth docks are at the grey buildings at the far [west] end of the marina, by the "baby beach".
To register for class after the deadline Thurs. nite at midnight, you will need an add code [APC] which you can get from either Marc or me. Its easy but easier if you register before Friday.

Also all my posts are going to the bottom of the list vice the top.
That's the default setting. In a way, it makes sense to see the first entry at the top and scroll down for the rest, but I've also become used to the other way. - Marc

I still can't get it; I have a red x and a syllabus icon but it won't open by clicking or copying to a word document.
Mark, not sure what you mean. Is this what happens after you right click, and save the syllabus to your hard drive? - Marc
Not exactly; the only option it [right click] gives is copy and I have only tried pasting to a word doc. Am I the only one with this problem?? -Mark |

On Friday, Sept. 10th the Tall Ships will be arriving to Dana Point from 5:00-7:00. Hum....right during our class...now wouldn't that make a great opportunity for practicing our sailing moves???? Tall Ships are always good targets to dodge! And just think how nice that would be for all those tall ships to be greeted by the friendly, Saddleback sailing class. |
