Mark,

What are the planned dates for the upcoming MST 289 sail? I'd like to skipper, but need to check the calendar.

Thanks, Marc

I will be activating the MST289 class board soon.
I will need skippers for boats for that; please let me know if you are interested. In the meantime, last year's info will still apply except for the dates.

Thanks Marc! It's funny you mention that, I was thinking about the steps we took to sail off the mooring, while on my walk along the beach this morning. It was the neatest feeling to do that. I'm glad we had someone with us, that knew what they were doing. I would have gone the other direction! I can't believe how much you can still learn, after 5 times of taking this class!!

Santa Barbara Island - Catalina Trip Notes

I must say, first off, that watching Campbell's Sloop depart the mooring at Emerald under sail was a thing of beauty. It went something like this: slip the bow hawser, spring back on the taught stern line, slip the stern line, haul out the headsail and let the bow fall off down the fairway, gather speed and exit the mooring field.

As I stood watching at the shrouds on Escape, Charles from Pilgrimage, who had also been watching, hollered, "Hey why didn't you get that on tape?"

All I can say now is, I was in the moment and was fully engaged in watching it happen. To those of you on Sloop, and to the rest of the class, I hope you were watching too and paid attention!

I did catch Escape's departure on video using the same method, but that was from the on-board viewpoint and not quite the same.

This was a great trip for many reasons. More to come on that.

Marc
