Ted, just bring your laptop with a satphone hookup and then anyone on board at any time can use the web to research the enormous archive of material you are posting here - might save a couple of trees and keep from clogging everyone's inbox too.
I'm getting ready to write up some highly detailed SOPs regarding just exactly how the other boats would then use your set up to research the archive while underway. Of course we'll have to decide on the rules, and who has permission, and what the exceptions to the rules might be, and whether the differing officers on the deck of your boat will have the same authority to override the rules or not, and just which rules they can override, and what to do in the event of a power outage, and then set up a way to monitor the intake of water for each crewman, and wether or not they arrived on time for their watch, and what to do if they didn't, and whether they actually followed your SOP to make a determination of what to do in regard to companss deviation, and memorialize the decision not to worry about it because you never meant to follow it anyway, and to codify the procedure for using an observation of the color of a crewman's urine as an early warning device, surveillance if you will, in regard to whether or not the SOP specifying water intake is being followed, and to decide on sanctions in the likely event it is not followed, and then plan for succession in the chain of command in the likely event that an officer becomes incapacited due to unforseen action by crewmembers, and the need to fully describe just how any impromptu celebrations by crew are to be carried out.
You know, with all this uncertainty and no time to create SOPs to cover it all, we should probably cancel the cruise. It wouldn't be proper to have a hole so big in our reference library.
How would anyone know what to do? |
