Greetings folks, on a cruise such as this I would normally assign one person to handle engineering related duties during the cruise, which basically means that person is responsible for the smooth running of all the systems aboard the boat. This means the electrical/mechanical portions of the daily pre- and post-cruise checklists as well as troubleshooting any issues that may arise. This type of organization becomes valuable to avoid the "too many chef's in the kitchen syndrome"

In our case we have the opposite situation-not enough chef's so to speak. So what I'd like to do is the deck watches handle the electrical/mechanical portion of the daily pre- and post-cruise checklists to give everyone a chance to get their hands dirty (sorry, couldn't resist). If there are system-related issues or damage to the vessel during the voyage, the off-watch OOD will be acting Engineer as required.

PS The daily pre- and post-cruise checklists will be posted in the checkout section shortly.
